“We believe that any action to destabilize the region is rooted in Israel and its genocide in Gaza,” Amirabdollahian said in a recent interview with America’s CNBC network on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Iran’s top diplomat advised US President Joe Biden and the White House not to “tie their destiny” to the fate of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“The US should not, Mr. [Joe] Biden should not tie their destiny to the fate of Netanyahu,” he said. “The full-scale cooperation of Biden and the White House with thugs like Netanyahu in Israel is the root of insecurity in the region,” he added.
Asked about tensions in the Red Sea and Washington’s accusations that Iran has been involved in Yemen’s decision to attack Israeli-linked ships in the strategic waterway, Amiradbollahian said, “Maritime security is of paramount importance to us, because we export oil.”
“So if there is insecurity near our vicinity, it will not be in our favor,” he pointed out.
“The people of Yemen and other countries in the region who defend the Palestinian people are acting according to their own experience and through their own interests, and they are not receiving any orders or instructions from us,” the foreign minister said.
Asked about Iran’s anti-terror strikes in Iraq, Amirabdollahian said the missile attacks, carried out by the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) last week, were “in line with combating terrorism and legitimate self-defense.”
He said Tehran has a very “privileged relationship” with the Iraqi government. “The Iraqi officials know very well that Iran considers the security of that country as its own, and the terrorists are the common enemy of the people and the governments of Iran and Iraq.”
“We have no reservations when it comes to securing our national interest with any other country,” he added.
The IRGC said an Israeli “spy headquarters” was one of the targets of its Tuesday missile strikes inside Iraq.
